BHP: Busting

BHP and other major mining employers in the Pilbara have spent the last few years promoting their commitment to gender balance across their workforce. They’ve introduced quotas and publicly celebrated the growing participation of women in the industry (as they should).

But behind the glossy reports and media releases, MEU members working as train crew in the Pilbara have been raising a simple, basic issue for more than 12 months: the toilets.

For crew working long shifts on trains, waiting for trains or working in shunt yards the facilities provided are inadequate, impractical, and in some cases, non-existent. It’s an issue of safety, dignity, and respect and it’s one BHP should have fixed yesterday.

Our Campaign

The Pilbara Women’s Committee is calling on BHP to immediatley provide adequate, accessible toilet facilities for all train crew in the Pilbara.

This isn’t just about toilets. It’s about respect.

We call on BHP to bring their toilet facilities into line with basic expectations in a modern workplace.
