Save Myuna Colliery Jobs

Save Myuna Colliery jobs by calling on Origin Energy to commit to a long-term coal supply contract for Myuna workers at Eraring power station. Eraring power station supplies more than 20 per cent of NSW’s electricity and will operate until 2029, generating profits for Origin Energy.

Next door, Myuna Colliery employs 300 local workers and exists solely to supply coal to Eraring via a dedicated conveyor belt. There is no alternative market for Myuna’s coal.

Despite this direct and unavoidable link, Origin Energy is refusing to commit to a long-term coal supply contract. If Origin does not purchase coal from Myuna, the mine must close. Three hundred jobs will be lost and the impact will ripple through contractors, small businesses, and families across Lake Macquarie. Locals are calling it the Wangi Wipeout.

This is not an inevitable outcome of the energy transition. It is a commercial decision by Origin Energy. While Origin continues to profit from running what was once a publicly owned power station, Myuna workers and their families are left in limbo.

A just transition means certainty, planning, and accountability. Add your name below to help save Myuna Colliery jobs and secure a long-term coal supply agreement for Myuna workers.rates.
