The Mineworkers Trust is once again investing in the future of mining and energy families, with the recipients of the 2026 Scholarship Awards now announced.

This year, 20 scholarships worth $7,000 each have been awarded to Mining and Energy Union (MEU) members and their dependants to support further study at TAFEs and public universities across the country.

The scholarships form part of the Trust’s ongoing commitment to mining and energy communities, with millions of dollars distributed each year to support vital local services, organisations and education opportunities.

For many families, the scholarships provide practical support at a critical time, helping cover the costs of study and easing financial pressure while recipients pursue qualifications that will strengthen their futures and communities.

Over the years, the program has helped hundreds of young people from mining and energy families take the next step in their education, opening doors to careers in a wide range of industries and professions.

This year’s successful applicants were selected based on a range of factors, including their academic record, financial circumstances, the likelihood of completing their studies, and the broader benefit their education may bring to mining and energy workers and their communities.

Among this year’s recipients is Emerson Brown, a Muswellbrook local and daughter of a member at Bayswater Lodge. The Mineworkers Trust will support Emerson in completing her Bachelor’s degree in Physiotherapy, including a regional program across towns like Tamworth, Gunnedah and her hometown. Muswellbrook is also home to Georgia, who will be supported by the Trust in completing her Business and Law degree.

This scholarship will provide valuable support as I balance study, work and a long commute to university…I hope to one day contribute to the industry, using my skills to support and advocate for its people.

Georgia – Recipient of scholarship.

The Trust congratulates all successful recipients and wishes them every success in their studies throughout 2026. We also want to acknowledge those who weren’t successful this year, the large number of applicants shows just how much incredible talent exists within our Union and its communities.

The Mineworkers Trust continues to play an important role in supporting workers and their families, ensuring that the benefits created by the industry continue to flow back into the communities that power Australia.
