A new film about the 2010 Pike River mining disaster in New Zealand shows the families’ long fight for justice for 29 men killed on the job.
To promote the film and an important conversation about mine safety, the MEU hosted Pike River family members and activists Anna Osborne and Sonya and Daniel Rockhouse for a national tour and preview screenings in Maitland and Mackay. Anna’s husband and Sonya’s son Ben were killed in the disaster. Daniel – Sonya’s other son and Ben’s brother – was one of just two workers to survive it and is now an MEU member working in the Queensland industry.
All MEU members are encouraged to watch the film, which opens in Australian cinemas on May 14.
