Close Call: Mine Haul Road

October 19, 2026

Share this:

A close call on a coal mine haul road could have had fatal consequences.

A haul truck rounded a bend and narrowly avoided a light vehicle stopped near the bend while a crew altered traffic arrangements. The truck operator braked, but the truck slid across the recently watered road.

The NSW Resources Regulator says mines must plan for light vehicles stopping on active haul circuits, with effective exclusion zones, clear communication and adequate visibility.

Traffic changes must be planned and communicated before workers are exposed to moving haul trucks. Critical controls need to be checked and maintained, and incidents reported so action can be taken.

Every mineworker deserves to go home safely.
