A light vehicle travelling at 48 km/h narrowly avoided colliding with a haul truck at an open cut coal mine.
The haul truck was indicating to turn right when the light vehicle entered the intersection without giving way. The truck operator spotted that the vehicle wasn’t slowing down and stopped before turning, preventing a collision.
Under the mine’s road rules, light vehicles were required to give way to haul trucks.
Workers’ lives should never depend on a last-second save. Mine operators must put layers of protection in place, including separating vehicles wherever possible and ensuring clear road rules are understood and followed.
Stay safe!
