The Mining and Energy Union has filed a new Same Job Same Pay application today, covering dozens of labour hire workers at one of Peabody’s largest Queensland operations.
This new application covers around 25 labour hire workers at Coppabella open cut mine near Moranbah in Central Queensland. Peabody, the mine’s operator, engages labour hire operators Workpac and Protech GPS.
These labour hire workers work alongside direct Peabody workers, performing production roles for between approximately $10,000 and $20,000 a year less.
A successful application would lift the labour hire workers in line with the Peabody EBA – in some cases a rise as much as $380 a week.
Orders from the Fair Work Commission come into effect on 1 November. If the order has not been made by then, it will come into effect on the date the order is issued.
