The Mining and Energy Union has filed a new Same Job Same Pay application, covering dozens of labour hire workers at one of the Hunter Valley’s largest open cuts.
This new application covers around 120 labour hire workers at United Wambo open cut mine near Singleton. The mine’s operator, Glencore, engages labour hire operators Workpac, Corestaff, Programmed Skilled Workforce, and the TESA Group.
These labour hire workers work alongside direct Glencore workers, performing production roles for roughly $30,000 less per year.
A successful application would lift the labour hire workers in line with the Glencore EBA – in some cases a rise of over $500 per week.
Orders from the Fair Work Commission come into effect on 1 November. If the order has not been made by then, it will come into effect on the date the order is issued.
