The Mining and Energy Union has filed a new Same Job Same Pay application covering hundreds of labour hire workers at Illawarra Coal’s massive Appin underground coal mine in the NSW Southern coalfields.
This application covers around 240 labour hire workers employed by PIMS.
PIMS employees work alongside Appin mine employees for roughly $18,000 less per year.
A successful application would lift pay of PIMS workers in line with the rate of pay of directly employed workers.
Orders from the Fair Work Commission come into effect on 1 November. If the order has not been made by then, it will come into effect on the date the order is issued.
