The Mining and Energy Union has filed a new Same Job Same Pay application covering hundreds of labour hire workers at BHP’s open cut mine in the Hunter Valley.
This new application covers around 225 labour hire workers at Mount Arthur coal mine near Muswellbrook.
The mine’s operator, BHP engages labour hire operator Skilled Workforce Solutions.
Labour hire employees work alongside BHP employees for roughly $40,000 less per year.
A successful application would lift pay of labour hire workers in line with the rate of pay of workers employed by BHP.
Orders from the Fair Work Commission come into effect on 1 November. If the order has not been made by then, it will come into effect on the date the order is issued.
