More applications for Same Job Same Pay have been filed at two Central Queensland coal mines today.

The Mining and Energy Union has today filed two applications in the Fair Work Commission covering labour hire coal miners working at German Creek open cut mine (Capcoal Surface Operations) in Central Queensland.

Two applications covering labour hire workers employed by Workpac and Mobilise Group have been submitted.

The applications cover around 70 employees working for both labour hire companies at the mine which is owned by Anglo American.

The pay difference between labour hire workers and permanent employees at German Creek can sometimes be up to between $45,000 to $55,000.

We have also filed another application covering labour hire coal miners working at Daunia mine.

Our application covers labour hire workers employed by Workpac at the mine in Central Queensland, which is owned by Whitehaven.

The pay difference between labour hire workers and permanent employees at Daunia mine can be up to $10,000 to $15,000.

Once an order from the Fair Work Commission comes into effect it would lift pay of labour hire workers in line with the terms of Enterprise Agreements for the respective sites.

“Our team is working its way around the Queensland coalfields talking to workers about Same Job Same Pay laws and how we can use them to win pay rises,” said MEU Queensland District President Mitch Hughes.

“Our latest applications at German Creek and Daunia will deliver more pay rises to labour hire workers and we thank our members at those mines for getting behind these applications.

“We have more to come.

“We still have a legal process to go through and some mining companies have indicated they will fight our applications – so we encourage all mineworkers to join the union and put us in the best position to win Same Job Same Pay at their mine site.”
